John Robinson

John Robinson, 87, lifelong Superior resident, died peacefully, Thursday, December 3, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN after a courageous battle with Covid-19.
He was born on January 13, 1933, in Superior, the son of Clifford S. and Rose M. (Isaacson) Robinson.
He graduated from Central High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the Superior State Teachers College.
John served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine C. Jones on January 26, 1957, and they celebrated sixty-three years of marriage before his passing.
John retired from Duluth Plumbing Supplies as a heating specialist after many years of service. He was also a true servant to others and a dedicated man of God and was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Superior where he faithfully served as a trustee and on many boards/committees. John also helped establish and worked many of their pasty bakes. One of John’s greatest pleasures was serving his community on the Douglas County Board of Supervisors for many terms and was instrumental in establishing the Veterans Clinic in Superior. While on the County Board, he served on various committees and boards, most notably the Forestry Committee, the Veterans Commission and also the Planning/Zoning Committee. After completing his final term on the County Board, John continued to serve his community as a citizen representative on the VA Commission. In addition, John volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts of America and Laborers for Christ, building churches across the upper Midwest. John enjoyed camping for many years and spending time with his long-time family friends, especially their Friday night get-togethers and dinners. He also enjoyed photography, affectionately earning him the nickname “flash”, and was a member of the Duluth Camera Club. He was very proud that a photo he took of Bark Bay was published on the cover of the official Wisconsin state map for two publications.
Above all, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Robinson, Superior, WI; daughter, Laurie (James) Dolsen, South Range, WI; son, Len (Lisa) Robinson, Esko, MN; grandchildren, Paige and Megan Robinson, Justine (John) Greely, Eric (Devon) Dolsen and Abby Dolsen; great-grandchildren, Valerie and Clayton Greely; sister, Margaret Newman; brother, Richard “Dick” (Beverly) Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gilbert “Gil” Newman.
Due to COVID restrictions on group gatherings and the current surge in local, state, and national cases, no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at a later date in 2021.
