John G. Hammersborg

John G. Hammersborg, 69, Superior resident, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 15, 2020 in his home surrounded by his children. He was born on May 10, 1951 in Little Fork, MN to Goodwin and Esther (Hogfeldt) Hammersborg.

John graduated from South Shore High School, received his BA in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and his BS in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica. He served his country in the United States Air Force, Navy Reserve, and retired as a captain in the Air National Guard. He was employed as an RN at St. Luke’s Hospital. John married Jean Hanson on August 6, 1988 in Duluth, MN and would have celebrated thirty-two years of marriage this summer.

John is survived by his wife, Jean; three sons, Michael Hammersborg, David (Chelsea) Hammersborg and Ted Hammersborg; two daughters, Emily (Walter) Ayala and Marie (Daniel) Mack; two grandchildren, Myles and Karlie Ayala; two sisters, Mary (Cliff) Peterson and Laura (Kevin) Prochaska and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Central Assembly of God. 3000 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Tom Miller officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Port Wing, WI.

John was a member of Central Assembly of God for thirty years. He lived his life as a born again Christian and died with the assurance that he would spend eternity with Jesus Christ, his personal Lord and Savior.
