Joanne Caroline Pitt
Joanne Caroline Pitt passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 30, 2020 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s in Duluth, MN after a brief illness at the age of 68. She was born on July 25, 1952 in Duluth, MN to Alfred and Barbara Lohse.
Joanne graduated from Superior Senior High School, Superior, Wisconsin in 1970 and WITC- Superior’s LPN training program in 1971.
Joanne and her husband Marvin Pitt were married May 23, 1981 at Christ Lutheran Church in Superior, WI. They enjoyed thirty-nine and a half years of marriage before her passing.
Joanne started her almost 50 year nursing career at Memorial Hospital in Superior but soon realized that her true calling was to care for the elderly. Over the years she worked at several nursing homes in Superior, WI; Duluth, MN; and Minneapolis, MN. She also spent 15 years as a school nurse for the Superior School District retiring from there in 2017. While working as a school nurse she continued working part time for Twin Ports Health Services and she spent several summers working as the nurse at Girl Scout Camp Roundelay in Minong, WI.
Besides her marriage to Marvin the greatest joy in her life was the adoption of her two children Joshua and Makayla. As much as she loved her nursing career, being a wife and mother was her true passion.
Joanne was an excellent seamstress, quilter and cook. She loved being with family and enjoyed family gatherings especially Christmas. She was a life long avid Minnesota Viking fan, rarely missing a game on TV. She also watched as many Milwaukee Brewers games with her husband as possible. She looked forward to the occasional trip to a Casino with her sisters and brothers and her yearly sisters week-end.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Paul; her cousin, Johanna (who was like a sister to her); her mother and father-in-law, Nancy and August Pitt; two sisters-in-law, Diane Pitt and Mary Pitt; and her brother-in-law Larry Meier.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; daughter, Makayla (Dawson Coleman) Pitt, Superior, WI, son, Joshua (Kari Van Allen) Pitt, Duluth, MN; two sisters, Patricia (Gerald) Anderson, Brule, WI and Robin (Richard) Schuenemann, Robbinsdale, MN; a brother, John (Darleen) Lohse, Superior, WI; two sisters-in-law, Judy Lohse, Gilbert, MN and Gloria Meier, Superior, WI: a brother-in-law, Clifford (Nina McDermott) Pitt, Minong, WI; Two grandchildren Malakai Bran Jones and Vynetta Coleman; many nieces and nephews.
Joanne’s memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday October 17, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church in Superior, WI. Visitation will be begin at 1 PM at the church and continue until the service. The memorial service will be followed by a Celebration of her Life at the Log Cabin Bar, 2821 County Road E, South Range, WI.
The Cremation Society of Minnesota is assisting the family.
