Joan M. Blomfelt

Joan Marlene Blomfelt passed away following a lengthy decline on June 8, 2021 at age 84.
She was born to Margaret (Erickson) and Carl Anderson on June 17, 1936 – in other words, she was 100+% Swedish. Joan graduated from Central High School and was an active member of the Superior Figure Skating Club, starring in a number of their annual performances and skating professionally for a time. She received her B.S. degree in education from Wisconsin State College and her Master’s degree, also in education, from UW-Superior.
She married Earl Blomfelt on July 25, 1959 and they were married for 54 years. Together they had two children Terri (Kildow) and Todd Blomfelt.
Joan was a skilled artist and woodworker. She filled our home with furniture she built herself and covered our walls with carvings she had designed. She was an outdoor enthusiast, and enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. She joked that she may have been the only woman in the state who had received a canoe from her husband as a birthday gift. Although she was a terrible cook, she enjoyed dining out with her family and friends. She loved to laugh and was pleased to pull off a creative prank or give a good gag gift. She was a lifetime member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and spent much of her time as a volunteer and choir member there.
She is survived by her daughter Terri, son Todd, daughter-in-law Brenda, and three beautiful grandchildren – Emma, Evan and Owen Blomfelt. She is also survived by her brother Ron (Toni) Anderson.
Her funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on June 15, 2021 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Visitation with her family and friends beginning at noon.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave an online condolence or to sign the guestbook, please visit www.downs-lesage.com.
