Janet Schroeder, 73, lost her battle with cancer, passing away on August 23, 2021, at her home with her husband Jeff by her side.

Janet was born on May 21, 1948, to William and Esther Koenen, growing up on the family farm in Oakland Township. She was a member of the first graduation class at Superior Senior High School. She went on to work as a secretary at the National Bank of Commerce and retired as a secretary in the Superior School District where she was known as “Jan in the Main Office.”

On July 24, 1971, she married Jeffrey Schroeder and recently celebrated 50 years together. Together, they raised two sons.

Jan was always an active person with many interests. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, motorcycling, and spending time away with her friends. But most of all she loved to travel. Taking trips to visit family in Arizona and Oklahoma, cruising the inland passage in Alaska, and exploring many national parks, to mention only a few of many travels. Wherever travel took her and Jeff, she always looked for a horse stable and would convince Jeff to ride with her.

She was an active member of country Peace Presbyterian Church and loved her church family. With all her interests, family always came first. She especially loved the times she spent with her grandson, Brandt. The summers he spent with Grandma and Grandpa were the highlight of each summer.

Jan is survived by her husband, Jeff; sons, Garett of South Range and Neil (Jennifer) of Aurora, CO; grandson, Brandt of Aurora, CO; sisters, Mary (James) McMullen of St. Cloud and Carol (Tony) Ernst of Superior; brother, Ray (Cheryl) Koenen of Parkland; sister-in-law, Marilyn Magnason of Superior; brother-in-law, Steve Schroeder of Racine; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Country Peace Presbyterian Church, 4694 County Road A, Superior, WI 54880. Lay Minister Leslie Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Essentia Hospice. The care and compassion they gave Jan and the family was nothing short of excellent.
