James "Pat" Cosgrove

James “Pat” Cosgrove, age 86, of Solon Springs, WI passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at St. Luke’s Health Care System in Duluth, MN.

James Patrick Cosgrove was born January 10, 1933 in Superior, WI the son of Harry and Helen (Lepley) Cosgrove. He was raised in Gordon, WI until he was in the tenth grade and then moved to Solon Springs, WI with his aunt. Pat finished his schooling in Solon Springs and graduated from high school in 1950. Pat joined the US Navy on January 8, 1951 and served for several years on the USS Ingersoll and earned the National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge Pat returned to Solon Springs and began work with the Douglas County Ambulance Service. On December 29, 1956, Pat was joined in marriage to Patricia Margaret Bashara at St. Pius Catholic Church in Solon Springs. Pat continued to work with the Ambulance service for 12 years and also did some vocational training in Superior while working. Pat later worked for a short time as a fireman before becoming an engineer for the railroad. Pat spent twenty years as an engineer before his retirement. Pat served on the Douglas County Board for fourteen years and was supervisor of numerous committees for the county. He also served on the Highway and Forestry Committee and was chair of the Extension Committee. For forty years Pat served on the Village of Solon Springs Board and served as its President for twelve years. He also was a member of the board for Lucius Woods at the creation of the park and St. Pius X Catholic Church. Pat was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.

Pat is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia; his children, Kevin (Cathy) Cosgrove of Solon Springs, WI, James “Kelly” (Jodi) Cosgrove of Blaine, MN, Colleen (Samuel) Sloggy of Appleton, WI, Bridget (Jay Lien) Cosgrove of Duluth, MN; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, John (Kathy) Cosgrove of Gordon, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Michael Cosgrove.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Pat at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Solon Springs with Father James Kinney officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Military honors will be accorded by the State of Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program. Interment will be in the St. Pius Cemetery in Solon Springs.
