Gracie Morgan

Gracie Lynn Morgan, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, thirteen years to the day that her beloved husband Art passed in 2008.

Gracie was born June 20, 1935, daughter of Sam and Grace (Hutchison), Cardigan in Chicago, IL, growing up in Superior, WI.

In her younger years Gracie worked at the Patio Cafe Bakery in Superior, WI, Gracie tended bar at the Village Bowl Bowling Alley in South Superior and later Gracie worked at the Parkland Health Facility Kitchen in South Range, WI.

Gracie and her husband Art bought the bar on Hwy E, South Range WI in the late 60’s and named it “Somewhere Else”. There was a fire but with the help of their many good friends, Somewhere Else was the place that “Friends Built”. Many happy memories were shared by family and friends at Somewhere Else including Gracie’s Dad, Sam Cardigan’s famous Irish Stew for all to share on St Patrick’s Day.

Gracie and Art retired in the early 80’s selling Somewhere Else and traveling the country searching for that perfect retirement spot. Their travels ended when they got to the Florida Keys. They fell in love with the Keys, first staying in campgrounds before buying their home on Little Torch Key in 1984.

Gracie and Art enjoyed many happy years in their Tropical Paradise, becoming members of the VFW and the Big Pine Moose Lodge. They loved boating, fishing and entertaining many family and friends along with their special dogs: Lucky (rescued from Hurricane Andrew), Maraih and Bazooka (Little B).  Life was good.

Gracie is survived by her children, Georgia LePage (Ron), Sugarloaf Key, Bill Koenig (Cele), South Range WI, Bud Morgan, South Range WI and Pam Kailian (Tom), Cudjoe Key, Sister June Strooza, AZ, Grandchildren Matt Upthegrove, Art Koenig (Trinnette), Kasey Koenig Brock (Casey), Art Morgan (Krissa), Suzy Morgan St Marie (Chris), Amanda Morgan (Mike), Zack Rose (Joe), and William Rose. Also 14 great grandchildren, Gracie’s companion cat Stanley and dear friend of many years Joanne Stone (Thelma).

Gracie was preceded in death by parents Sam and Grace Cardigan, husband Art Morgan, brother Bill Oseles and beloved daughter Susie.

Gracie will have a Celebration of Life and her ashes spread out to sea in the Florida Keys where her husband Art was also laid to rest on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Their love continues, together forever now.  

A Celebration of Life for Gracie will be held in Superior, WI at a later date. Gracie will be missed by all who knew and loved her, she will never be forgotten!
