Gerald Melvin Peterson of Chestertown, MD, died on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at his home. He was 82.

Born on February 25, 1937 in Bayfield, WI, he was the son of the late Edwin P. and Lila Olive Peterson. He graduated from Superior Cathedral High School in Superior, WI. Mr. Peterson served a four year tour with the United States Navy and graduated from several military schools to attain the rate of Communications Technician 2nd class. He also attended and graduated from several government schools and finished multiple college equivalent courses in order to attain a professional status of a communications officer with the Department of Defense. Mr. Peterson received numerous government awards, some of which included Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Total Quality Management, and a Special Customer Service award while working as a special assistant with the National Security Agency. He served as a lector and facilitator at Sacred Heart Church and as an officer with the local chapter of Fr. G. Bradford Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife, Elaine Peterson, he is survived by two sons, Michael Peterson and wife Susan of Chestertown, and Mark Peterson and wife Lisa of Linden, VA; and eight grandchildren, Lauren Peterson of Snowmass Village, CO, Joseph Peterson of North Topsail Beach, NC, Caroline Peterson of Chestertown, Emma Peterson of Chestertown, Sarah Corkery of Washington DC, Rebecca Peterson of Fairfax, VA, Elizabeth Peterson of Orlando, FL, and Gail Peterson of Linden, VA. He was predeceased by his siblings, James Peterson and Pauline Peterson. A visitation will be held privately. Services will be held Saturday July 6, 2019 11:00 am at St. John's Catholic Church in Rock Hall, MD. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, following the service.
