Donald P. “Pat” Moreland

Donald P. “Pat” Moreland, 90, longtime Lake Nebagamon resident, died Monday, March 2, 2020 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior.

He was born in Ashland, WI, October 12, 1929, the son of Everett and Margaret (O’Malley) Moreland.

Pat was a teacher for the Maple School District for thirty-four years retiring in 1990.

He married Leona Wedan, September 11, 1950 and they celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage.

He was an avid marathon runner and participated in hundreds of local races. When not running, he could be found at the Poplar Golf Course, playing multiple rounds weekly. Pat is also well-known for his baseball skills, especially at the mound. His pitching skills are still talked about today.

In his youth, Pat earned the title of Bayfield County Marble Champion three years running. Pat was instrumental in establishing the youth little league baseball program for Douglas County. He coached multiple youth and high school sports.

He is survived by his four daughters, Patricia Pearson, Superior, WI, Karen (Bob) Coleman, Poplar, WI, Mary (Tim) Ries, Pittsburgh, PA, and Shari (Keith) Olson, Brule, WI; five sons, Keith (Nancy) Moreland, Brule, WI, Scott (Peggy) Moreland, Lake Nebagamon, WI and FL, Bear (Patty) Moreland, Lake Nebagamon, WI, Rick Moreland, Brule, WI, and Donnie (Lauri) Moreland, Ashland, WI; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leona; parents; and son-in-law, Calvin Pearson.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior, with a service to be held at 12:00 PM.

Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery at a later date.
