Barb Nelson

Barbara Nelson age 71, who originally from Port Wing, WI, passed away on June 28, 2020 in Reno, NV after a courageous battle with cancer.

Barb was born on August 4, 1948 in Superior, WI. She graduated from South Shore High School in Port Wing 1966. After graduation Barb moved to the Bay area of California and worked for A T&T and eventually was promoted to Supervisor. She made many lifelong friends through the phone company and was very happy at her job. Barb had the opportunity to move to Santa Cruz, CA (Capitola) area where she lived near the ocean, and loved it. When Barbie retired she moved to Reno, NV and worked for H&R Block and Bonanza Casino.

Barb was a generous, fun-loving person who liked spending time with her many friends and family. She liked telling stories and jokes. Barb was an animal lover, especially of cats and cows. She belonged to the 4-H Club and as a young girl looked forward to the Bayfield County Fair every summer. Barbie showed championship Holsteins but her favorite was named “Princess” who won Grand Champion for several years. Barbie was also a cat person and always included 1 or 2 cats in her family.

Barb will be very missed by her many friends and family but never forgotten.

Barbie is survived by: Mother Virginia Garz and Stepfather Don Garz, Merced, CA.

Sisters and Brothers: Sue Johnson (Tom) Traverse City, MI, Arlene Tammaro (Paul) Cupertino, CA, Douglas Nelson (Nancy) Superior, WI, Steven Garz (Diana) Merced, CA, Jeanette Nelson (Hans) St. Paul, MN, Collette Sazil (Kemal) San Antonio, TX, Andrew Nelson Minneapolis, MN and sister-in-law: Ev Nelson, Poplar, WI. Nieces: Heidi Masse, Johanna Garz, Sheri Nelson, Nephew Michael Tammaro and Great- niece Nathalie Masse. She is also survived by many cousins and other close family members and friends.

Preceding her in death are: Grandparents: Carl and Frances Nelson, Grandmother- Helen Jarvi, Father: C. Franklin Nelson, Brother: Bryan Nelson and Nephew: Daniel Tammaro.

There will be a private memorial planned for a later date. If you wish to make a donation in Barb’s name please donate to your local SPCA or Humane Society.
