Alex “Papa” Kotter, Jr.

Alex Kotter, Jr. “Papa”, 79, of Superior, died Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth.
He was born December 8, 1941 in Superior. On December 15, 1962 he married Sharon Plunkett at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Superior.
Alex’s work history started at Kotter’s Floraland, C. Reiss Coal Company and retired as a Superior Police Department detective. He owned and operated Lake Superior Charter Fishing boat known as the “Hounddog”.
To say Alex enjoyed the outdoors, would be an understatement. He loved hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. He was a member of the Northwest Gun Club, Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club, Rio Gun Club in Arizona, a founding member of the Western Lake Superior Trolling Association and a lifetime member of the American Trapshooting Association.
Alex was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Superior B.P.O. E. #403.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edith (Clark) and Alex Kotter; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Vivian Plunkett.
Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Sharon; son, Tim (Melodee Meyers) Kotter, Superior; daughter, Tami (Michael) Susens, Superior; grandson, Cody (Jameson, Liam, Maverik) Spencer and fiance Lynette Ewing (Gracie), Superior; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Plunkett and five nephews (Brian, Mike, Pat, Bob, Greg).
A private service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
A public Celebration of Life will be held in May at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Superior.
