Raymond George Kimmes age 95 of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin and formerly of Superior and Frederic, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in St. Croix Falls. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Ruth; parents; brothers, Arnold, Wilfred, and Joseph; sister Delores; son-in-law, Daniel Johnson; daughter-in-law, Julie; and a grandson-in-law, Eric Crabtree. Ray is survived by his daughter, Sandra Johnson; son, Raymond "Pete" (Julie) Kimmes Jr.; four granddaughters, Melissa (Kevin) Dessart, Bridget Crabtree, Theresa (Luke) Ferkinhoff, and Lisa (Anthony) Pearson; nine great-grandchildren; sister, LaVonne Sekulich; and also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ray was born August 2, 1923, in Superior, WI to Joseph and Elizabeth Kimmes. On March 16, 1944, he married Ruth Kleppe in Williamsburg, VA where he was stationed at Camp Perry. Later he was shipped to the Philippine Islands for one year as a Machinist Mate First Class (T) (CB) USNR. He was discharged January 7, 1946. He worked road construction for 50 years. He loved being a crane operator and took pride in his work. Together they raised two children, Sandra and Raymond "Pete" Jr. on a farm in Eureka. He loved his family and spent every weekend in the summer farming, camping and boating. He always had a story to tell and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren. Ray was a member of the VFW and the Navy Seabee Veterans of America Island X-2 Twin Cities which meet six times a year for breakfast. He will be truly missed. Ray's family thanks the staff at Good Samaritan Society for all the wonderful care given to him the past year. Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic, Wisconsin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Condolences may be expressed online at
