Alfred "Al" LaValley

Alfred "Al" LaValley, 95, lifelong resident, formerly of East End, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at New Perspective in Superior. He was born on October 17, 1922 in Superior, WI to Renee and Helen (Stansky) LaValley.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Al worked as a truck driver for Sweeney Fuels for twenty-four years and then went on to work at W.I.T.C. as a custodian for seventeen years retiring in 1986.

He married Romayne Kirkendall on August 4, 1943 and they celebrated sixty years of marriage before her passing in September 2003. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He loved fishing the St. Louis River with his good friends Fr. Elvan Maschmann and Carl Gullo.

Al is survived by one daughter, Carol (Roger) Chevrier, Solon Springs, WI; three sons, John (Pam) LaValley, Rochester, NH, David (Mary Jo) LaValley, Braham, MN and Richard "Dick" (Lyn) LaValley, Superior, WI; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Pentecost, KY and Jane Bishop, CA and two brothers, Lawrence (Bonnie) LaValley, MI and Pete LaValley, Superior, WI and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Romayne, daughter Jean McDonough, brothers Joe and Firmin LaValley and sister Ethel Dettlaff.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Superior. Pallbearers for the service will be Jon Brostowitz, Scott Mohr, Steve Mohr, Charlie Munich, Tom Miller, Troy Burkhart and Tony Burkhart. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Al's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 15618 Windrose Lane #100, Hayward, WI 54843.
