An outdoor tradition in Brule will continue this year with minor changes.

The 26th River View Loppet Cross Country Ski Race takes place Saturday, Jan. 16, on the After Hours Trails in Brule. Start times are 9 a.m. for classic style competitors and 2 p.m. for racers using the skate ski technique.

The races have been modified to meet COVID-19 restrictions. All registrations must be completed online at before 5 p.m. Jan. 15. There will be no on-site registration the day of the event.

Racers in both ski styles will have interval starts, with skiers starting off two at a time, one minute apart to provide separation during the event. Participation is limited to 45 racers in each event. Awards will be mailed out instead of being distributed at an awards ceremony. The after-race lunch, normally held in the Brule Town Hall, will not take place.

The ski race is an important fundraiser for the Brule Valley Ski Club and Brule Lions. While the event will earn less this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, organizers said, it provides a friendly event for cross country skiers. Visit the Brule Valley Ski Club website for more information.
