As temperatures start to fall across the Northland, Douglas County residents eligible for help can apply for help with home heating bills through the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program.

Starting Monday, Oct. 1, the Douglas County Department of Health and Human Services begins accepting applications for the 2019 heating season.

The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program assists income eligible homeowners and renters with their heating and electric costs with a one-time payment during the current heating season (Oct. 1 to May 15).

In addition, eligible homeowners may qualify for nonfunctioning heating system repair or replacement, and eligible homeowners and renters qualify for the Weatherization Assistance Program that helps households reduce energy consumption.

Applications and program information are available by calling 715-395-1651 or go to homeenergyplus.wi.gov.
