SHS hands out athletic awards
Superior High School handed out its annual athletic awards at the SHS Honors Night last week in the Performing Arts Center.
Gunnar Gronski was named the Packy Paquette Male Athlete of the year and Addie Young and Erin Thompson were named the Spartan Female Athletes of the Year.
Young’s sister, Samantha, won the samer award last year.
The Frank Cirilli Scholar Athletes of the year were Sophia Kintop and Katherine Lisak for the girls, and Blake Hanson for the boys.
Gronski and Lisak were also Superior’s WIAA Scholar Athletes for the 2017-18 school year.
Young was a three-sport athlete earning four letters in hockey, three in soccer and one in tennis.
Thompson earned five varsity letters, including four in softball and one in hockey.
Gronski earned eight varsity letters, including four in track and field, three in football and one in wrestling.
Kintop was a three-sport athlete that earned nine varsity letters (four in cross country, one in basketball and four in soccer). She had a 3.74 GPA and was on the A Honor Roll for six semesters.
Lisak had a 3.92 GPA while earning nine varsity letters (three in swim and dive, four in dance and two in soccer).
Lisak’s community services included Key Club, Interact Club, National Honor Society, Girls Scouts-Senior Scout, Northland Youth Leadership Program, Chamber Youth Leadership Program, Senior Mentors, St. Mary’s Volunteer Program, United States Presbyterian Representative, Superior Math League, Superior YMCA Whalers Board, Clean Up at Jennette Polly Girl Scouts Cabin, Inclusive Care Unti Mission-founder and creator and active confirmed member of United Presbyterian Church.
Hanson played in three sports, earning eight varsity letters (three in soccer, three in hockey and two in track and field). He had a GPA of 3.881, was in the top 10 percent of his class and had an ACT score of 32.
Hanson’s honor classes included: AP World History, AP US History, AP Chemistry, AP Government and AP Biology. His community services included Superior Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program, Scott Anderson Leadership Foundation and Northland Foundation Kids+ Youth Leadership Program.
