Flood advisory issued for Twin Ports, I-35 corridor

A flood advisory is in effect for the Twin Ports and the Interstate 35 corridor until 9 a.m., as heavy rain that started overnight continues this morning.

The advisory includes southern St. Louis, northwestern Douglas, Carlton, Pine and southeastern Aitkin counties. Cities included in the advisory include Duluth, Superior, Proctor, Hermantown, Cloquet, Moose Lake, Wrenshall, Esko, Barnum, Hinckley, Cromwell and Floodwood.

At about 4:30 a.m., the National Weather Service reported that "radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. One to two inches of rain have already fallen over this area and an additional one to two inches are possible this morning. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area."

A flash flood watch remains in effect for the area until 10 a.m. The Weather Service reported that the heaviest rain is expected to diminish by mid-morning.
