Students demonstrate robotics skills

A robotics demonstration marks the conclusion to an 18-week course for middle school students at the Making College Accessible: Cyber-Robotics Student Showcase at 4 p.m. today in the Multicultural Center Room 232, in Old Main, at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The event includes a College Information Session for students and their parents to learn about financial aid, scholarships, college admission requirements and process. In addition, UWS students, faculty and staff answer questions about college.

The Making College Accessible: Cyber Robotics & College Readiness Program immerses 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in an environment that encourages a love for learning through critical thinking, problem solving and hands-on learning in cooperative groups.

Over the course of 18 weeks, participants mastered robotics concepts such as mathematical reasoning and electronic circuits while completing a final project: Assembling a moving electronic robot.

Making College Accessible is coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs in collaboration with North Star Academy and Superior Middle School.

The free event is open to the public.
