Superior and Douglas County residents will soon have a new option for health care.
Essentia Health will open an urgent care unit at its Superior clinic on Friday, Oct. 2 at noon, according to a news release.
“We are responding to a need for an Urgent Care that we’ve recognized within our community for some time,” said Essentia Health-St. Mary’s-Superior Clinic Administrator Kim Pearson. “Patients have been seeking this level of care for years, and we’re pleased to be able to offer them this choice, in addition to e-visits, virtual visits on demand, in-person clinic appointments and the care we provide on an emergency basis in our hospital.”
The Essentia Health-Superior Clinic Urgent Care will serve patients on a walk-in basis Fridays between noon and 7 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Mondays from noon to 7 p.m. at 3500 Tower Ave.
While St. Mary’s Hospital-Superior Clinic often offers same day access for appointments, opening the urgent care will provide an extra level of convenience to patients who don’t want to schedule an appointment, increasing accessibility and offering the appropriate level of care, the news release said.

The urgent care clinic will have access to a lab and radiology on-site, the news release said. Essentia’s electronic medical record ensures coordinated care, no matter how patients choose to receive care.
Urgent care is an option for many medical conditions that need to be treated but are not emergencies, such as strep throat, minor injuries or even skin infections.
For emergency care, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
