They were reported as follows: eight in Rusk County; three in Douglas County; two in Burnett County; and one each in Bayfield, Taylor and Washburn counties. No new cases were reported in Iron and Price counties.

Ashland and Sawyer counties' number of confirmed cases was reduced by one each, which can happen when testing methods are corrected or duplicate records are eliminated, according to DHS.

An additional 13 deaths, including one person in Washburn County, were reported statewide Wednesday, bringing the total to 6,863, DHS said. Overall, 1.1% of people who have contracted the virus have died.

The seven-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin remained relatively stable. On Wednesday, the figure was 626. The seven-day average of positive cases measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. An overall decrease in the seven-day average of positive cases indicates the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the state is also going down, according to DHS.

The number of negative tests in the state was 2,864,060 Wednesday, an increase of 4,387.

An additional 73 people have been hospitalized because of the virus since Tuesday, bringing the total to 29,600. Overall, 4.9% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Wednesday's report also showed that 97.4% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 1.4%, or 8,666 cases, are currently active. The seven-day rolling average on May 4 was 331 with 15.9% of patients on ventilators according to Wednesday's weekly update.

DHS also reports that 4,539,012 doses of vaccine have been administered by DAY with 2,544,399 Wisconsin residents, 43.7% of the population, receiving at least one dose of vaccine, and 2,054,195 people completing the vaccine series.
