An additional 59 Northwestern Wisconsin residents tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported Monday, April 19.

They were reported as follows: 15 in Burnett County; 14 in Douglas County; eight in Washburn County; six in Taylor County; five in Rusk County; four in Sawyer County; three in Price County; and two in both Ashland and Bayfield counties. No new cases were reported in Iron County.

Statewide, an additional 1,618 cases were reported over the weekend, DHS said, bringing the total to 590,831 Monday.

An additional seven deaths reported statewide by Monday, bringing the total to 6,710, DHS said. Overall, 1.1% of people who have contracted the virus have died.

The seven-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin has remained higher than 700 cases daily for almost two weeks. On Monday, the figure was 731. The seven-day average of positive cases measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. Two weeks ago, the seven-day average was 591.

The number of negative tests in the state was 2,803,121 Monday, an increase of 10,414.

An additional 132 people, including one person in both Bayfield and Burnett counties, have been hospitalized because of the virus since Friday, bringing the total to 28,594. Overall, 4.8% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

DHS changed the way its reporting hospitalizations. The seven-day rolling average of hospitalizations reported through April 13 is 291, with 9.8% of COVID patients on ventilation.

DHS's report also showed that 97.4% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 1.5%, or 8,850 cases, are currently active.

DHS also reports that 3,888,870 doses of vaccine have been administered by Monday with 2,341,100 Wisconsin residents, 40.2% of the population, receiving at least one dose of vaccine, and 1,614,276 people completing the vaccine series.
