On Monday, May 10, the Food and Drug Administration recommended expanding eligibility of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to children as young as 12. Currently only people age 16 and older can get the Pfizer vaccine, while the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have not been authorized for anyone under the age of 18. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention still needs to approve the FDA's recommendation. A CDC panel is expected to do so this week. Minnesota officials said they expect parents and guardians will be able to schedule vaccine appointments later this week, according to a news release sent from the governor's office on Monday.
