Just 18 days after surpassing 200,000 cases of COVID-19, the state Department of Health Services reported that Wisconsin passed 300,000 cases Friday, Nov. 13.

The state reported a record high 7,777 cases Friday, bringing the total to 301,165. Wisconsin passed 200,000 cases on Oct. 26, according to DHS figures.

The number of cases has steadily grown since early September, after spiking briefly over the summer and plateauing. It's the fourth day straight day the state has added more than 7,000 cases, and the fifth day it's happened since Saturday. The seven-day average of positive cases was 6,442 Friday, compared to 727 on Sept. 1, DHS said.

For the fourth day in a row, more than 200 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 10 counties of Northwestern Wisconsin.

A total of 263 cases were reported as follows: 79 in Douglas County; 27 each in Burnett, Taylor and Washburn counties; 25 in Rusk County; 23 in Sawyer County; 20 in Bayfield County; 18 in Ashland County; 11 in Price County; and six in Iron County.

An additional 58 deaths were reported Friday. Statewide, 2,573 people have died from the virus, DHS said. Overall, about 1% of people who have contracted the virus have died.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,975,512, an increase of 10,733 from the previous day.

An additional 274 people were hospitalized because of the virus Friday. Across the state, 2,077 people are currently hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, about 5% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Friday's report also showed that 76% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 23%, or 69,060 cases, are currently active.
