Taylor County reported that a resident died from complications related to COVID-19 Friday, Sept. 25, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The death is the county's fourth since the pandemic began, and among nine reported Friday. A total of 1,274 Wisconsin residents have died from the virus. Overall, 1% of cases have resulted in death, according to DHS data.

Among the nine counties in the region with residents who tested positive for the virus, Douglas County reported 12 new cases, followed by Ashland County with eight, DHS said. Burnett County recorded seven additional cases; Price, Rusk and Taylor Counties each added four cases; Bayfield County reported three; and Sawyer and Washburn counties recorded two new cases each.

They were among 2,504 cases reported throughout the state Friday, DHS said, bringing the total to 110,828. Of the tests reported, 16.6% were positive. The 7-day average for positive tests was 16.5%.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,383,645, an increase of 12,575 from the day before.

An additional 65 people were hospitalized because of the virus Friday, DHS reported. There are currently 530 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 6% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. DHS has said it doesn't know the hospitalization history for 37% of people who tested positive.

Friday's report showed that 83% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 15%, or 17,170 cases, are active in the state.
