The Bayfield County Health Department is partnering with the Wisconsin National Guard to offer free COVID-19 diagnostic testing Friday in Washburn.
The testing event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bayfield County Garage, 311 S. First Ave. E. Any Wisconsin resident can get tested at the free event, though symptomatic people and close contacts of people who have been diagnosed are preferred, according to a news release from the Bayfield County Health Department.
Bayfield County has recorded 23 more people with COVID-19 since Wednesday, Sept. 2. That's a third of all lab-confirmed cases that have been recorded in the county since the pandemic began.
Following a large wedding on Aug. 29 in Washburn, public health officials in the county began investigating a COVID-19 outbreak tied to the event.
Those interested in getting tested at the free event Friday have the option of preregistering at register.covidconnect.wi.gov. Preregistration online will speed up the process and shorten the length of time people wait for a test, the release said.
Parental or legal guardian consent is required for minors to get tested. Anyone under age 5 can't be tested.
