Every county in the 10-county region except Iron County reported new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, Aug. 1, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Washburn County reported the highest total of cases with 12, bringing its total to 29, DHS said. Douglas County reported an additional nine cases, while Ashland County recorded four new cases.

Taylor County reported three new cases. Price and Sawyer counties each added two cases, respectively. Bayfield, Burnett and Rusk counties tallied one new case each.

Statewide there were a total of 54,002 positive cases of the coronavirus Saturday, DHS said, an increase of 1,062 from the day before. Of the tests reported, 7.1% were positive.

Thirteen additional people died from COVID-19, leaving the total number of deaths in the state at 947.

The number of negative tests in the state was 895,945 an increase of 13,796 from the day before.

Ashland County

Douglas County

  • Active cases: 29

  • Total negative tests: 4,394

Iron County

  • Active cases: 41
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 71
  • Total negative tests: 964

Price County

  • Active cases: 5
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 21
  • Total negative tests: 1,767

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 3
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 15
  • Total negative tests: 1,225

Sawyer County

  • Active cases: 9
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 36
  • Total negative tests: 2,532

Taylor County

  • Active cases: 24
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 50
  • Total negative tests: 1,686

Washburn County

  • Active cases: 20
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 29
  • Total negative tests: 1,750

An additional 44 people were hospitalized because of the virus Saturday, DHS reported. Overall, 8.7% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. DHS has said it doesn't know the hospitalization history for 34% of people who tested positive.

Saturday's report showed that 80% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.

Wisconsin's daily testing capacity was 24,156 on Saturday. An increase in the number of tests being done is one reason for the increase in the number of positive cases. The percentage of positive tests over the last several days was:

  • 9.6% on Sunday, July 26
  • 8.5% on Monday, July 27
  • 5.3% on Tuesday, July 28
  • 5.9% on Wednesday, July 29
  • 6.1% on Thursday, July 30
  • 5.7% on Friday, July 31
  • 7.1% on Saturday, Aug. 1
