Douglas, Iron, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor and Washburn counties reported new cases of COVID-19 Friday, July 31, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Douglas County reported three new cases, bringing its total to 113 cases, DHS said. Iron County reported two new cases. Rusk and Price counties each reported one new case. Two more cases were reported in Sawyer and Taylor counties, with four more in Washburn County on Friday.

Statewide there were a total of 52,940 positive cases of the coronavirus Friday, DHS said, an increase of 832 from the day before. Of the tests reported, 6.1% were positive.

Fifteen additional people died from COVID-19, leaving the total number of deaths in the state at 934.

The number of negative tests in the state was 882,149 an increase of 14547 from the day before.

Ashland County

Bayfield County

Burnett County

  • Total negative tests: 1,458

Douglas County

  • Active cases: 21
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 113
  • Total negative tests: 4,143

Iron County

  • Active cases: 43
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 71
  • Total negative tests: 945

Price County

  • Active cases: 3
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 19
  • Total negative tests: 1,744

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 3
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 14
  • Total negative tests: 1,208

Sawyer County

  • Active cases: 8
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 34
  • Total negative tests: 2,480

Taylor County

  • Active cases: 25
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 47
  • Total negative tests: 1,663

Washburn County

  • Active cases: 12
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 17
  • Total negative tests: 1,730

An additional 47 people were hospitalized because of the virus Friday, DHS reported. Overall, 8.8% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. DHS has said it doesn't know the hospitalization history for 34% of people who tested positive.

Friday's report showed that 80% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.

Wisconsin's daily testing capacity was 24,156 on Friday. An increase in the number of tests being done is one reason for the increase in the number of positive cases. The percentage of positive tests over the last several days was:

  • 6.7% on Saturday, July 25
  • 9.6% on Sunday, July 26
  • 8.5% on Monday, July 27
  • 5.3% on Tuesday, July 28
  • 5.9% on Wednesday, July 29
  • 6.1% on Thursday, July 30
  • 5.7% on Friday, July 31
