91 more people test positive, 2 die from COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin Oct. 29

The people who died were residents of Douglas and Price counties, respectively.

Douglas and Price counties reported that two residents died from complications related to COVID-19 Thursday, Oct. 29, according to the state Department of Health Services.

The deaths mark the second and third for Douglas and Price counties, respectively, since the pandemic began. They were among 51 deaths reported in Wisconsin Thursday, pushing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 1,948. Overall, about 1% of people who have contracted the coronavirus in Wisconsin have died.

There were 91 new cases of COVID-19 reported in all 10 counties across Northwestern Wisconsin. They were reported as follows: 18 in Douglas County; 15 in Bayfield County; 14 in Taylor County; 12 in Rusk County; 11 in Sawyer County; seven in Washburn County; five in Price County; and three each in Ashland, Burnett and Iron counties.

They were among 4,870 cases reported in the state Thursday, and bring the state's total to 214,996. The seven-day percentage of positive cases by person was 27.1%.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,803,465, an increase of 8,304 from the previous day.

An additional 193 people were hospitalized because of the virus Thursday. There are currently 1,439 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus, a record high that continues to climb. Overall, 5% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Thursday's report also showed that 78% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 21%, or 44,896 cases, are currently active.
