8 new cases of COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin on Aug. 24

Douglas County added two new cases Monday.

Five counties reported new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, Aug. 24, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services .

Douglas, Iron and Taylor counties each reported two new cases, while Sawyer and Washburn counties recorded one new case each.

Statewide there were a total of 70,845 positive cases of the coronavirus Monday, DHS said, an increase of 392 from the day before. Of the tests reported, 8.1% were positive. The 7-day average for positive tests was 8%.

No additional deaths were reported, leaving the overall number of deaths in the state at 1,081, DHS said. Overall, 2% of cases have resulted in death, according to DHS data.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,119,622, an increase of 4,473 from the day before.

An additional 15 people were hospitalized because of the virus Monday, DHS reported. There are currently 321 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 8% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. DHS has said it doesn't know the hospitalization history for 34% of people who tested positive.

Monday's report showed that 88% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 11%, or 7,445 cases, are active in the state.

Ashland County

Burnett County

  • Active cases: 5
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 33
  • Total negative tests: 1,957

Douglas County

  • Active cases: 23
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 241
  • Total negative tests: 5,935

Iron County

  • Active cases: 25
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 110
  • Total negative tests: 1,311

Price County

  • Active cases: 1
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 33
  • Total negative tests: 2,057

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 4
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 23
  • Total negative tests: 1,560

Sawyer County

  • Active cases: 25
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 143
  • Total negative tests: 3,784

Taylor County

  • Active cases: 24
  • Deaths: 3
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 85
  • Total negative tests: 2,186

Washburn County

  • Active cases: 19

  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 56
  • Total negative tests: 2,303
