62 people test positive, 1 dies from COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin Oct. 1

All 10 counties in Northwestern Wisconsin reported new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, Oct. 1, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services .

Douglas County reported 19 cases, while Price County added 16, DHS said. Ashland County recorded six new cases; Bayfield County added five; Sawyer and Taylor counties each reported four cases; Burnett County recorded three new cases; Rusk and Washburn counties each added two cases; and Iron County reported one.

Burnett County reported that a person died from complications related to COVID-19 Thursday, DHS said. It's the county's fourth death related to the virus.

They were among 2,887 cases reported in the state Thursday, according to DHS figures. The total number of cases in the state was 125,161. The 7-day average for positive tests was 17.4%.

Twenty-one additional people died from the virus, putting the total at 1,348. Overall, 1% of people who have contracted the virus in Wisconsin have died, DHS data shows.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,434,721, an increase of 11,474 from the day before.

An additional 109 people were hospitalized because of the virus Thursday, DHS reported. There are currently 683 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 6% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Thursday's report showed that 81% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 18%, or 22,126 cases, are active in the state.

Ashland County

  • Active cases: 72
  • Deaths: 2

  • Total negative tests: 2,960

Bayfield County

  • Active cases: 35
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases: 120
  • Total negative tests: 3,129

Burnett County

  • Active cases: 92
  • Deaths: 4
  • Total cases: 208
  • Total negative tests: 2,886

Douglas County

  • Active cases: 127
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases: 522
  • Total negative tests: 8,121

Iron County

  • Active cases: 3
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases: 143
  • Total negative tests: 1,522

Price County

  • Active cases: 65
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases: 135
  • Total negative tests: 2,830

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 20
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases: 66
  • Total negative tests: 2,374

Sawyer County

  • Active cases: 27
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases: 229
  • Total negative tests: 4,644

Taylor County

  • Active cases: 47
  • Deaths: 4
  • Total cases: 206
  • Total negative tests: 2,921

Washburn County

  • Active cases: 15
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases: 116
  • Total negative tests: 2,980
