Seven counties reported new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Oct. 9, according to DHS .
The new cases were reported as follows: 17 in Douglas County; 14 in Taylor County; 12 in Price County; seven in Ashland; five cases each in Bayfield and Sawyer counties; and one case in Burnett County.
They were among 2,988 new cases in the state reported Friday, pushing the total to 144,818. The 7-day percentage for positive tests was 17.4%.
Sixteen additional people died from the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 1,440. Overall, 1% of people who contracted the virus in Wisconsin have died, DHS data shows.
The number of negative tests in the state was 1,518,662, an increase of 11,834 from the day before.

An additional 138 people were hospitalized because of the virus Friday. There are currently a record 907 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, about 6% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.
Friday's report showed that 80% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 19%, or 27,516 cases, are active in the state.
