61 more people test positive, 1 dies from COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin Oct. 26

A resident of Sawyer County was among the 10 deaths reported Monday.

Wisconsin surpassed 200,000 positive cases of COVID-19 Monday, Oct. 26, according to the state Department of Health Services.

In the 10 counties that include Northwestern Wisconsin, 61 new cases of the virus were reported as follows: 13 each in Bayfield and Taylor counties; 12 in Douglas County; seven in Price County; five in Sawyer County; four each in Ashland and Burnett counties; and one each in Iron, Rusk and Washburn counties.

They were among 2,883 cases reported in the state Monday, and bring the state's total to 201,049. The seven-day percentage of positive cases by person was 24.5%.

A resident of Sawyer County was among the 10 deaths reported Monday, marking the county's third from COVID-19-related complications since the pandemic began. The total number of people in the state who have died from the virus is 1,788. Overall, about 1% of people who have contracted the coronavirus in Wisconsin have died.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,777,892, an increase of 9,866 from the previous day.

An additional 84 people were hospitalized because of the virus Monday. There are currently 1,293 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 5% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Monday's report also showed that 79% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 20%, or 41,067 cases, are currently active.
