An additional 59 Northwestern Wisconsin residents tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Monday, April 5.
They were reported as follows: 12 in each Burnett and Douglas counties; 11 in Bayfield County; 10 in Taylor County; six in Washburn County; four in Price County; two in Ashland County; and one each in Iron and Sawyer counties. No new cases were reported in Rusk County.
Statewide, an additional 1,597 cases were reported over the weekend, DHS said, bringing the total to 580,184 on Monday.

An additional seven deaths reported statewide since Friday, bringing the total to 6,640 Monday, DHS said. Overall, 1.1% of people who have contracted the virus have died. One person in Taylor County who was believed to have died from COVID-19 was changed to a confirmed death.

The seven-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin continued to climb over the weekend. On Monday, the figure was 591. The seven-day average of positive cases measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. An overall increase in the seven-day average of positive cases indicates the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the state is going up, according to DHS.
The number of negative tests in the state was 2,749,514 Monday, an increase of 9,732 since Friday.
An additional 112 people, including one person in each Douglas and Taylor counties and two people in Rusk County, have been hospitalized because of the virus since Friday. The total of people hospitalized is 27,797 or 4.8% of all Wisconsinites who contracted the virus. Across the state, 246 people are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19 , and the total number of people receiving treatment in intensive care units is 64. DHS reported that 79% of the state's available hospital beds are occupied. .
Monday's report also showed that 97.6% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 1.2%, or 7,161 cases, are currently active.
DHS also reports that 3,087,492 doses of vaccine have been administered by Monday with 1,922,832 Wisconsin residents, 33% of the population, receiving at least one dose of vaccine, and 1,171,309 people completing the vaccine series.
