57 people test positive, 1 dies from COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin Oct. 3

Washburn County reported one person died Saturday, DHS said.

All 10 counties in Northwestern Wisconsin reported new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, Oct. 3, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services .

Ashland County reported 10 new cases, while Douglas and Price counties each recorded nine, DHS said. Sawyer and Washburn counties added six cases each; Burnett County reported five new cases; Bayfield and Taylor counties each recorded four cases; Iron County added three; and Rusk County reported one case.

Washburn County reported one person died from complications related to COVID-19, DHS said. It's the county's second death from the virus.

They were among 2,892 cases reported in the state Saturday, a new one-day record according to DHS figures. The total number of cases in the state was 130,798. The 7-day average for positive tests was 17.5%.

Nineteen additional people died from the virus, putting the total at 1,372. Overall, 1% of people who have contracted the virus in Wisconsin have died, DHS data shows.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,456,763, an increase of 11,192 from the day before.

An additional 82 people were hospitalized because of the virus Saturday, DHS reported. There are currently 663 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 6% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Saturday's report showed that 81% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 18%, or 24,035 cases, are active in the state.

  • Deaths: 1

Price County

  • Active cases: 73
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases: 155
  • Total negative tests: 2,902

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 21
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases: 70
