Eight counties reported new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, Oct. 8, according to DHS .
The new cases were reported as follows: 21 in Douglas County; eight in Rusk County; 7 in Price County; 5 each in Ashland, Burnett, Sawyer and Taylor counties; and one in Iron County.
They were among a one-day record 3,132 new cases in the state reported Thursday, pushing the total to 141,830. The 7-day percentage for positive tests was 17.1%.
Nine additional people died from the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 1,424. Overall, 1% of people who contracted the virus in Wisconsin have died, DHS data shows.
The number of negative tests in the state was 1,506,828, an increase of 13,524 from the day before.

An additional 110 people were hospitalized because of the virus Thursday. There are currently a record 907 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, about 6% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.
Thursday's report showed that 80% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 19%, or 26,774 cases, are active in the state.
