An additional 29 Northwestern Wisconsin residents tested positive for COVID-19 , the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported Wednesday, March 24. The total reflects new cases reported since Monday after technical issues prevented DHS from posting its daily update Tuesday, March 23.
They were reported as follows: 13 in Douglas County; four in Sawyer County; three each in Ashland, Iron and Washburn counties; two in Taylor County; and one in Rusk County. No new confirmed cases were reported in Bayfield and Price counties.
Burnett County had its number of confirmed cases reduced by three and deaths reduced by one as DHS continues to work on improving the accuracy of its records in the Wisconsin Electrical Disease Surveillance System.
Statewide, an additional 776 cases were reported Wednesday, DHS said, bringing the total to 573,899.

An additional 10 deaths reported statewide Wednesday, including one person in Taylor County, bringing the total to 6,597, DHS said. Overall, 1.1% of people who have contracted the virus have died.
One person in Douglas County who probably had COVID-19 has died.
The seven-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin rose somewhat. On Wednesday, the figure was 452. The seven-day average of positive cases measures the average number of new cases per day over the previous week. An overall decrease in the seven-day average of positive cases indicates the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the state is also going down, according to DHS.
The number of negative tests in the state was 2,693,696 Wednesday, an increase of 5,514 since Monday.
An additional 72 people have been hospitalized because of the virus since Monday. Across the state, 248 people are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19 , and the total number of people receiving treatment in intensive care units is 62. DHS reported that 81% of the state's available hospital beds are occupied. Overall, 4.7% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.
Wednesday's report also showed that 97.7% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 1.1%, or 6,368 cases, are currently active.
DHS also reports that 2,442,810 doses of vaccine have been administered by Wednesday with 1,534,154 Wisconsin residents, 26.3% of the population, receiving at least one dose of vaccine, and 893,146 people completing the vaccine series.
