23 new cases of COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin on Aug. 14

Douglas County had 56 active cases of the virus Friday, the most of any county in the region.

Seven counties reported new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Aug. 14, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services .

Sawyer County reported six new cases, while Douglas County added five, DHS said. Taylor County recorded four additional cases; Burnett County reported three new cases; Bayfield and Iron counties each added two new cases; and Ashland County reported one new case.

DHS reduced Washburn County's total by one case Friday. Officials have said they will fix errors in the data as they find them.

Statewide there were a total of 64,227 positive cases of the coronavirus Friday, DHS said, an increase of 1,021 from the day before. Of the tests reported, 9.8% were positive. The 7-day average for positive tests was 7.3%.

Seven additional deaths were reported, putting the overall number of deaths in the state at 1,025, DHS said. Overall, 2% of cases have resulted in death, according to DHS data.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,044,613, an increase of 9,418 from the day before.

An additional 65 people were hospitalized because of the virus Friday, DHS reported. There are currently 354 Wisconsinites hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 8.2% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. DHS has said it doesn't know the hospitalization history for 34% of people who tested positive.

Friday's report showed that 84% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. That means about 14%, or 9,003 cases, are active in the state.

Ashland County

  • Active cases: 8

Bayfield County

  • Active cases: 6
  • Deaths: 1

  • Total negative tests: 2,044

Burnett County

  • Active cases: 12
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 28
  • Total negative tests: 1,774

Douglas County

  • Active cases: 56
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 212
  • Total negative tests: 5,223

Iron County

  • Active cases: 27
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 78
  • Total negative tests: 1,237

Price County

  • Active cases: 5
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 32
  • Total negative tests: 1,941

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 5
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 21
  • Total negative tests: 1,434

Sawyer County

  • Active cases: 34
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 92
  • Total negative tests: 2,877

Taylor County

  • Active cases: 31
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 77
  • Total negative tests: 2,021

Washburn County

  • Active cases: 28
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 48
  • Total negative tests: 2,143
