210 more people test positive, 1 dies from COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin on Nov. 19

The person who died was a resident of Sawyer County.

A total of 210 people in Northwestern Wisconsin tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, Nov. 19, according to the state Department of Health Services.

The cases were reported as follows: 63 in Douglas County; 27 each in Rusk and Taylor counties; 23 in Washburn County; 21 in Burnett County; 17 in Sawyer County; 15 in Bayfield County; seven in Ashland County; six in Price County; and four in Iron County.

They were among 6,635 cases reported statewide Thursday, bringing the total to 338,472, DHS said. The seven-day average of positive cases continues to grow and is currently at 6,440, compared to 727 on Sept. 1, DHS said.

One Sawyer County resident was among 83 deaths reported in Wisconsin Thursday. The person's death brings the total in Sawyer County since the start of the pandemic to six. So far, 2,876 people have died from the virus in Wisconsin. Overall, about 1% of people who have contracted the virus in Wisconsin have died, DHS said.

The number of negative tests in the state was 2,049,526, an increase of 12,585 from the previous day.

An additional 236 people were hospitalized because of the virus Thursday. Across the state, 2,217 people are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19. Overall, about 5% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Thursday's report also showed that 77% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 22%, or 75,580 cases, are currently active.
