Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Iron, Sawyer and Washburn counties reported new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, Aug. 9, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services .
Sawyer County added eight new cases, while Bayfield County reported two new cases, DHS said. Washburn county recorded two new cases; and Ashland, Douglas and Iron counties reported one new case, respectively. DHS reduced Price County's total by one. Officials have said they will adjust the data as they find errors.
Taylor County reported its first death related to COVID-19 Sunday, according to DHS.
Statewide there were a total of 60,554 positive cases of the coronavirus Sunday, DHS said, an increase of 621 from the day before. Of the tests reported, 8.9% were positive. The 7-day average for positive tests was 5.9% Sunday.
Two additional people died from COVID-19, putting the total number of deaths in the state at 998.

The number of negative tests in the state was 993,742, an increase of 6,797 from the day before.

Ashland County

Rusk County
- Active cases: 7
- Deaths: 1

Sawyer County

Taylor County

Washburn County
- Active cases: 32

An additional 20 people were hospitalized because of the virus Sunday, DHS reported. Overall, 8.3% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized. DHS has said it doesn't know the hospitalization history for 34% of people who tested positive.
Sunday's report showed that 83% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
All of Wisconsin's 72 counties have confirmed cases of the illness.
