167 more people test positive for COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin Nov. 4

Douglas County added 45 new cases Wednesday; state sets another record for positive cases reported in one day.

A total of 167 people tested positive for COVID-19 across Northwestern Wisconsin Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to the state Department of Health Services.

They were reported as follows: 45 in Douglas County; 24 in Bayfield County; 17 in Taylor County; 15 in Sawyer County; 14 in Ashland County; 13 in Burnett and Rusk counties; 10 in Price County; eight each in Iron and Washburn counties.

The new cases were among 5,935 reported in the state Wednesday, the highest one-day total of positive cases reported thus far during the pandemic . The previous one-day high of 5,771 was reported Tuesday.

The state's total number of COVID-19 cases grew to 244,002 Wednesday, DHS said. The seven-day percentage of positive cases by person was 31.1%.

An additional 54 deaths were reported statewide Wednesday. The total number of Wisconsinites who have died from COVID-19 is 2,156. Overall, about 1% of people who have contracted the virus have died.

The number of negative tests in the state was 1,872,295, an increase of 10,333 from the previous day.

An additional 243 people were hospitalized because of the virus Wednesday. A record-high 1,747 Wisconsinites are currently hospitalized because of the virus. Overall, 5% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Wednesday's report also showed that 78% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 22%, or 52,480 cases, are currently active.
