A total of 159 people in Northwestern Wisconsin tested positive for COVID-19 Monday, Nov. 16, according to the state Department of Health Services.

The cases were reported as follows: 37 in Douglas County; 31 in Taylor County; 25 in Rusk County; 17 in Bayfield County; 15 in Washburn County; 13 each in Ashland and Sawyer counties; five in Price County; and three in Burnett County. There were no new cases reported in Iron County.

The new cases were among 4,389 cases reported statewide Monday, bringing the total to 316,758. The seven-day average of positive cases was 6,426, compared to 727 on Sept. 1, DHS said.

An additional 12 people died from COVID-19 Monday. So far, 2,649 people have died from the virus. Overall, about 1% of people who have contracted the virus in Wisconsin have died, DHS said.

The number of negative tests in the state was 2,009,148, an increase of 7,909 from the previous day.

An additional 118 people were hospitalized because of the virus Monday. Across the state, 2,097 people are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19. Overall, about 5% of Wisconsinites who contracted the virus have been hospitalized.

Monday's report also showed that 77% of the people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. That means 22%, or 70,205 cases, are currently active.
