13 new cases of COVID-19 in Northwestern Wisconsin on July 11

Six counties reported new cases Saturday.

Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Iron, Price and Washburn counties reported new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, July 11, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services .

Douglas County reported the most cases Saturday with six, bringing its total to 56, DHS reported. Ashland and Price counties reported two new cases each, bringing their totals to seven and eight cases, respectively. Bayfield, Iron and Washburn counties recorded one new case each, leaving their totals at six, 10 and six cases, respectively.

Iron County also reported its second death related to COVID-19.

Statewide, there were 35,679 positive cases of the coronavirus, DHS said. The total number of cases rose by 926 from the day before, the highest one-day total reported in the state since March. Of the tests reported Saturday, 7.7% were positive.

Seven additional people died from COVID-19, leaving the total number of deaths in the state at 821.

The number of negative tests in the state was 646,504, an increase of 11,903 from the day before.

Twenty-five percent of the state's COVID-19 cases are among people who are 20-29 years old, according to DHS data , which amounts to 8,571 cases. The age bracket with the second-highest total cases in Wisconsin are 30-39 year olds at 18%, or 6,104 cases.

Ashland County

Bayfield County

  • Active cases: 3
  • Deaths: 1

  • Total negative tests: 1,201

Burnett County

  • Active cases: 2
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 5
  • Total negative tests: 1,039

Douglas County

  • Active cases: 24
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 56
  • Total negative tests: 2,826

Iron County

  • Active cases: 4
  • Deaths: 2
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 10
  • Total negative tests: 464

Price County

  • Active cases: 5
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 8
  • Total negative tests: 1,107

Rusk County

  • Active cases: 0
  • Deaths: 1
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 11
  • Total negative tests: 906

Sawyer County

  • Active cases: 2
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 15
  • Total negative tests: 1,963

Sawyer County last reported a new positive case on Thursday, July 9.

Taylor County

  • Active cases: 11
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 17
  • Total negative tests: 1,195

Washburn County

  • Active cases: 3
  • Deaths: 0
  • Total cases reported since pandemic began: 6
  • Total negative tests: 1,264

Of the people statewide who have tested positive for the new coronavirus, 11% — or 3,797 people — have been hospitalized because of the virus as of Saturday. DHS reported that officials don't know the hospitalization history of 11,221 people, or 31%.

Saturday's report also showed that 78% of those with confirmed cases have recovered from the illness.

Wisconsin's daily testing capacity was 24,362 on Saturday. An increase in the number of tests being done is one reason for the increase in the number of positive cases. The percentage of positive tests over the last several days was:

  • 10.4% on Sunday, July 5
  • 9.2% on Monday, July 6
  • 3.9% on Tuesday, July 7
  • 5.6% on Wednesday, July 8
  • 5.7% on Thursday, July 9
  • 6.7% on Friday, July 10
  • 7.7% on Saturday, July 11
