YOUTH: Spartan dancers excel at camp

The Superior Spartan Dance Team participated in the Universal Dance Association summer camp at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul July 14-15.

The team took first place in the home routine show, which qualifies them for the Universal Dance Association National Competition held in Florida.

The Spartans also took home a Superior Trophy for their outstanding performances during evaluations.

On the first night of camp, the team received the "Rock Star" award for being the team giving 110 percent.

The team also received three spirit sticks for practicing hard and following the camp rules.

The group of Laura Bishop, Kristina Connor, Koriann Lee, Meagan Barnard, Carly Connor and Racheal Schimenek took home first place for their team routine.

The SHS Dance Team also had two girls who made the All Star team.

Racheal Schimenek and Danielle Lundgren, two of Superior's up and coming freshman dancers were chosen as All Stars. This qualifies them to participate in UDA's Paris Parade Event.

Capt. Laura Bishop and co-captains Sara Greely and Kristina Connor also qualified to attend the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

This year the Spartans have 22 girls who will dance at Superior Spartan athletic events.

The team is coached by Casey Carlson.
