YOUTH: Grannies offer peace scholarships

Northland Chapter of Grandmothers for Peace is offering Barbara Wiedner Peace Awards to local high school and college students actively involved in peace and social justice issues.

Northland Chapter of Grandmothers for Peace is offering Barbara Wiedner Peace Awards to local high school and college students actively involved in peace and social justice issues.

The awards are $200 scholarships. Students can receive an application by sending an e-mail to g4peace1@charter.net or writing Grandmothers for Peace, 2614 N. 22nd St., Superior, Wl 54880. Applications must be returned by March 15. The awards will be granted in April.

The peace awards are named in honor of the late Barbara (White) Wiedner, a Superior native who founded Grandmothers for Peace in 1982 from her home in Sacramento, Calif. The local chapter was formed Wiedner's sister, Jan Provost. Call her at 394-7929 for more information.
