Grandma's Marathon-Duluth, Inc. has announced a new Web site devoted entirely to the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF).
Log onto www.youngathletesfoundation.com and with just a few clicks you can learn about the YAF's various programs, sponsors, races and other fundraising events. Grant applications are also available to download and submit. The YAF provides funds to aid nonprofit youth organizations with program development or to help purchase new equipment needed for the continued success and safety of their programs.
"The creation of this site is truly a great opportunity for the community to learn more about all of the aspects surrounding the Young Athletes Foundation," said Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma's Marathon.
The Young Athletes Foundation (YAF) was developed by Grandma's Marathon in 1990 to assist in the promotion, development and growth of youth athletics. Since its inception, the YAF has contributed more than $325,000 to nonprofit youth athletic organizations and programs in Carlton, Cook, Douglas, Lake and St. Louis counties.
Volunteers still needed
If you have always wanted to be a part of Grandma's Marathon weekend but running just isn't your thing, then volunteering is the job for you.
Join the Grandma's Marathon team of 5,000 volunteers who will help make the 33rd annual celebration an event to remember. There are still more than 500 positions available for the June 18-20 Grandma's Marathon weekend.
Volunteer positions include areas such as traffic and spectator control, water station assistance, medical services, racecourse entertainment, race packet pick-up and finish area activities. Service organizations, large groups and individuals are all welcome and encouraged to participate. Each volunteer receives an official 2009 volunteer T-shirt, refreshment tickets and an invitation to the Grandma's Marathon Volunteer Party on Sunday, June 28 at Grandma's Sports Garden.
