Woman who disappeared from Superior hotel found in Trego

The Superior Police Department received information shortly before midnight Tuesday night that a woman who disappeared from a Superior motel around 2 a.m. Monday was at a campground in the Trego area, according to a news release by Capt. Chad La Lor.

The Superior Police Department received information shortly before midnight Tuesday night that a woman who disappeared from a Superior motel around 2 a.m. Monday was at a campground in the Trego area, according to a news release by Capt. Chad La Lor.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Department responded based on this information and located Jacqueline "Jackie" Schafter, 22, as well as two male companions who were arrested on unrelated Douglas County warrants.

Schafter was transported to Douglas County where she was arrested, and lodged in the Douglas County jail on charges of theft, relating to items she took from her place of employment, the Manning Motel, 3206 Belknap St., when she went missing early Monday morning.

Upon interviewing Schafter, she has confirmed that she willingly left the motel in the early morning hours on Monday.

It is expected that Schafter will be released from jail today and have an initial court appearance in the near future on the theft charge.
