A Superior woman is facing felony charges in Douglas County Circuit Court for allegedly wiping blood on a Superior Police officer's uniform and trying to punch him.
Nicole Jean Mazzoni, 25, faces felony charges of throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker and attempted battery of a peace officer as well as misdemeanor charges of resisting an officer and disorderly conduct stemming from a March 5 incident.
According to the criminal complaint:
Superior Police Officer Vern Holsclaw was dispatched to the 3900 block of Tower Avenue to check Mazzoni's welfare. As he was en route, another officer was sent because Mazzoni was reportedly yelling at neighbors. Holsclaw saw several people standing outside, including Mazzoni. She went into her residence, and after calming down, let the officer in.
He saw blood coming from her knuckles and mentioned it to her. Mazzoni quickly stepped forward and began wiping her blood all over the front of Holsclaw's uniform. When he tried to grab her arms to stop her, she began swinging punches at the officer. She broke free and came at Holsclaw again, but he managed to get hold of her and get her to the kitchen floor. She was "out of control," wailing, squirming and twisting.

With the help of an additional officer, Mazzoni was handcuffed and taken to an area hospital.
The Superior woman went to the Douglas County Jail to be charged the following day. She told Investigator Jeff Harriman that she had been sleep deprived and went "over the edge."
Mazzoni failed to appear for an initial hearing Thursday, the day the criminal complaint was filed. According to the court minutes sheet, she was in the hospital. Assistant District Attorney Mark Fruehauf was going to draft a summons for her to appear in court, according to online court records.
