Over the weekend, wolves killed four hunting dogs and injured two more in northern Wisconsin. The depredations occurred in Bayfield, Douglas, Iron and Lincoln counties, according to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

In Douglas County, a Bluetick hound was killed by wolves Saturday in the town of Solon Springs. In neighboring Bayfield County, a Black and Tan hound was killed in the town of Drummond Friday. Wolf caution areas have been established around the depredation sites. Hunters are urged to exercise caution if they plan to train hounds or hunt bear with hounds near any caution area.

In Douglas County, the newest caution area includes portions of the villages of Solon Springs and Lake Nebagamon. It also overlaps a caution area that was established following a July 9 incident in which a Black and Tan hound was killed by wolves in Lake Nebagamon.
