MADISON – Douglas County is in one of the four wolf harvest zones that has been closed to any further hunting and trapping of wolves for the 2014-2015 season. The most recent zone to close is zone 5 in central Wisconsin, which will close at 6:30 p.m. today according to the Wisconsin DNR.

Wolf hunters and trappers can currently continue to pursue wolves in Zone 3, a narrow band running from Burnett to Taylor counties, and Zone 6, which includes the southern two-thirds of the state except for the central area closing today.

The department will announce additional zone closures through news releases, notification at dnr.wi.gov, and via the wolf call-in number, 1-855-299-9653. It is each hunter and trapper's responsibility to verify and abide by zone closures. The department encourages hunters and trappers to check the website and call-in number daily.
