William H. Smith, 50, died suddenly on Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Duluth. William was known by his friends, family and those who loved him as Bill or Billy.

William H. Smith, 50, died suddenly on Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Duluth. William was known by his friends, family and those who loved him as Bill or Billy.

Bill was born and raised in Superior, where he worked for 20 years loading boats at the taconite plant for the Burlington Northern Railroad.

In 1998, Bill and Mary Pelfrey began their lives together. Sharing the same dreams, Bill and Mary started a flea marketing business in 2006. Through this venture, Bill and Mary worked flea markets from Minnesota to Texas. Bill and Mary recently relocated to Minneapolis.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Genevieve Smith; father, Henry Smith; and brother, Jay Smith.

Bill is survived by his wife and life companion, Mary Pelfrey of Superior and Minneapolis; his children, Erik R. Grant of Minneapolis, Jessie L. (Tom Skerik) Anrig, Ella J. (Nikki Nikunen) Pelfrey; son-in-law, James (Tina Pola) Anrig; and his beloved grandson, Jacob W. Anrig, all of Superior. Bill is also survived by his sister, Cherie (Bruce) Bachand and brother, Phil (Margaret) Smith of Superior; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home in Superior.
